Baptisms

We are delighted to welcome babies, children and adults at St Mary Magdalene for those first steps on an exciting journey with God.

The guidelines are that you need to live in the parish or be a regular worshipper here. Find out if you live in the parish by using the link here.

Timing

We have regular Sundays set aside when baptisms take place within our 10am service and the whole congregation can welcome the newly baptised.

Preparation

Those being baptised and their families receive preparation before the baptism day and a chance to ‘walk through’ the service.

Godparents

For babies and young children, it is a requirement that Godparents should be baptised themselves. Traditionally girls have two Godmothers and one Godfather. For boys it’s the other way around.

Fees: There are no fees for baptisms at SMM, but we always welcome a donation towards activities and the upkeep of our beautiful church.
